Our Policy on Peat

Protecting the peatlands.

Barton Grange Garden Centre shares the concerns of gardeners and the gardening industry about the effects of global peat extraction on wildlife habitats and the wider environment. Consequently, we fully endorse the research and work being done to find viable alternatives.

“We want to promote the use of sustainable peat alternatives by gardeners and therefore we stock a range of peat-free alternatives alongside our peat products. We actively encourage non-peat products for general soil conditioning and mulching. Although trade prices are generally more expensive, we will not charge our customers more for non-peat potting composts. We state clearly the peat content of all our products and train our staff to provide accurate advice so that our customers can make informed choices.”
