Lupins are classic cottage garden plants with striking spires that come in an array of gorgeous colours. Flowering in late spring and early summer, these easy-to-grow plants add colour and height to borders. Try planting in bold drifts with ornamental grasses and other tall perennials, such as bearded irises and delphiniums. They make brilliant cut flowers too. Choose a sunny, well-drained and sheltered spot with slightly acidic soil. Ensure good drainage, especially in containers and consider staking taller varieties for support.
