Although a little windy, the weather thankfully stayed dry for the aptly named ‘Topping Out’ celebrations at The Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre development in Preston on Thursday 29th March.
Traditionally, a ‘Topping Out’ ceremony marks the completion of the highest point of a building. In true gardening style, this celebration at The Flower Bowl saw the Topping brothers, Guy and Peter, spread the final tonne of topsoil on the roof – yes, soil on the roof! This was the last of the 700 tonnes to be laid and will be seeded mid-April to complete this grass roof feature, ready for sheep to graze in a few years’ time.
The Topping family gathered, along with construction workers and garden centre managers, to toast this landmark event in the building’s progress.
Construction of The Flower Bowl, located just across the way from Barton Grange Garden Centre, started only eleven months ago, and will be home to two restaurants, eight lanes of ten pin bowling, a three screen premium cinema, a coffee shop, a covered outdoor crazy golf course, two golf simulators and a four ice sheet curling rink.
Guy Topping says: “Russell and I started planning 6 years ago, so it’s a project that’s been in the pipeline for some time now and it’s sensational to see the build really coming together. We expect the opening to be in June.”
Guy thanked both the construction workers and Garden Centre employees for their continued support and hard work.
This is the second ‘Topping Out’ ceremony for the Topping family, with the first being at the Garden Centre in December 2007. Is this starting to become a family tradition?
