As the cold nights draw in, cosy up this winter with a warming glass of mulled wine. This perfectly spiced drink is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit! Follow the simple recipe below, all you need is half a bottle of wine, a handful of spices and some citrus fruit. Serves 2.
½ bottle red wine
1 cinnamon stick
2 star anise
1 orange, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
50g/1¾oz brown sugar
- Place all of the ingredients into a saucepan and simmer gently for 6-8 minutes, without boiling. Alternatively, place the ingredients in your slow cooker and cook on low until warm (1-2 hours, depending on your slow cooker).
- To serve, pour the mulled wine into heatproof glasses.
Try making mulled wine in the slow-cooker. Add all the ingredients to the slow cooker, switch it on, and it will keep at the perfect temperature all night.
