It’s finally looking like BBQ season! We thought we would provide a handy guide on which herbs are best for BBQ’ing.
First we’ve got Sage, if you soak the leaves in water and add to the BBQ coals whilst still damp, it adds a smokey flavour to your grilled food. We recommend Pork as the best meat for this herb but Sage also compliments butternut squash and pumpkin. In terms of caring for the plant, make sure your pot is in a sunny well drained spot, preferably in a container.
Next up is Rosemary, which obviously goes best with Lamb. Strip the leaves off to use in a marinade and you can use the stems as skewers for meat and veggies. Like Sage, this perennial evergreen shrub also likes a sunny well drained spot & be sure to prune this plant regularly!
Last but not least is Mint, which is an aromatic easy to grow hardy herb. It is ideal to be marinated on lamb but you can also add chopped mint to olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic and lemon juice. Garden mint makes the best mint sauce, so you can use that and pour it over your meat & veggies. These shrubs are best planted in pots to contain its spreading habit.
