Nurseries

At Barton Grange, we have three of our own nurseries, which propagate and grow plants for our own garden centres and for hundreds of other garden centres across the UK.

Brookhouse Nursery, winner of the National Pot Plant Grower of the Year Award in 2004, specialises in houseplants and pot bedding, including Poinsettias, Cyclamen, New Guineas, Royal Pelargoniums, Geraniums and Hydrangeas. Their success is down to the fact that they give the plants much longer to grow, typically 2 to 4 weeks longer than imported plants, so they flower more profusely and the flowers are deeper in colour. Furthermore, plants delivered to our Garden Centres spend no more than an hour in transportation and so reach the customer at their freshest and most healthy.

Garden Centre Plants is a 30-acre, wholesale nursery which grows over 800 varieties of climbers, conifers, herbaceous plants and hardy shrubs. GCP has a genuine reputation for quality and its climbers are renowned throughout the horticultural community. In 2004, it won the exclusive rights in the north of England to grow four new Clematis plants which were bred especially to celebrate the bicentenary of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). Other specialities include Mediterranean plants, exotic plants from Australia and living Christmas trees.

The Northern Liner Company

The Northern Liner Company in Pilling is a propagation nursery producing liners, or young plants, for customers all over the UK. Every year, two and a half million cuttings are taken and two million liners are grown by the nursery on its 16 acre site. The nursery was a founder member of the Association of Line Producers which has established its own industry guidelines for the production of high quality plants, and works closely with the Horticultural Trades Association. Annual nursery inspections ensure that the stringent quality standards are maintained.
