The Barton Grange group of companies dates back to 1945 when Mr and Mrs Edward Topping purchased a small manor house on the A6 at Barton with plans to turn it into a hotel.

Almost 60 years later, the Group comprises not only the planned hotel, now a 51-bedroom luxury hotel and conference centre, but also the two Garden Centres, a successful landscaping business and three large nurseries.

Through its nurseries business, the group supplies not only its own Garden Centres but also hundreds of other well-known garden centres and superstores across the UK. At the same time, Barton Grange Landscapes has become one of the largest and most successful landscaping businesses in the North West, winning awards for its work at events like the Southport Flower Show and Gardeners' World Live.

The Group is currently planning the expansion of its Garden Centres and Hotel businesses, with a new leisure development close to its current headquarters at Barton in Preston. A new Garden Centre will be built, alongside a marina, chandlery and arboretum, on a site at Brock, just north of the current site. The closure of the existing Garden Centre at Barton will enable the hotel to expand and improve its facilities further still.

The Barton Grange Group currently employs around 700 staff. Despite the continued growth of the business, the group remains a family-run operation, committed to the traditional values of excellent quality and first class customer service.
