The new Barton Grange Garden Centre at Brock was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal on Tuesday 10th June 2008.
Princess Anne arrived at the Garden Centre just before 11am and was given a guided tour by MD Guy Topping and his father Eddie Topping. She met with members of staff, suppliers and customers, as well as many of the people who helped to design and build the new Garden Centre.
Towards the end of her visit, after meeting other members of the Topping family, Princess Anne unveiled a commemorative plaque and cut a huge cake to declare the Centre officially open. As she left the Garden Centre, she met and chatted to groups of local schoolchildren.
Speaking after the event, Guy Topping said: “It was a great honour and a real pleasure to have Princess Anne here. She showed a lot of interest in the garden centre and asked lots of questions. We’re delighted that so many of our customers and supporters have been able to share this day with us.”
